Good Friday Relays – 6th April 2012
Report by Lorna Pearson:
A good turn out from Claremont with 4 teams: a senior mens, a veteran mens, a ladies and a mix of senior/vet men [which due to injury was 1 short at the last minute].
It was nice to see new faces on the team; Saiful on his team debut and Sionna running relays for the first time [again with a smile on her face for the whole time, she does this for cross country races as well]. Plus welcome back Graham, after a layup from injury.
Congratulations to the organisers for ensuring this event went ahead despite the course having to be re-jigged a few weeks before the event. Normally the event is a just over 2 mile loop but a pylon had suffered a fire [or exploded according to some stories on the day] and part of the course was in-accessible. Which meant it was two ‘there and back’ routes, to make up the distance; so not only were you being passed/passing people, you were running towards people as well.
However despite all the changes, the event went smoothly; well almost as some people [not us] decided to stop before the change over point – a bit confusing as either side of the central reservation of the road.
The weather was warm and the rain held off; producing some very good performances by the team, surprising even themselves.
Well done everyone.
