Newcastle parkrun 5/1/13
What a way to start the New Year! On a mild and perfectly still morning, not only did we smash the record attendance at Toonrun, we also broke 400. I can only hope the first-timers stick to their resolutions and we maintain this kind of turnout throughout the year.
There was a special appearance by Tony “The Fridge” Morrison. You can’t miss him, he’s the guy who runs with a 40kg fridge strapped to his back! I suspect a leisurely 5k was a walk in the park for him considering he’s done a half-marathon for thirty days in a row with that thing.
Well done to Catherine Young and Tom Oliphant on their new PBs. Tom smashed his by almost two minutes! Tom Tinsley looks to be getting back into racing form, as he ran his first sub-20 in over a year.

Finally, a big congratulations to Dave Manners for winning December’s parkrunner of the month award at Gateshead parkrun, along with a new PB. He’s been our lone representative in Saltwell Park on many occasions and has volunteered regularly. Well deserved Dave!
