Newcastle parkrun 2/2/13

Anyone for curling?

After a steady thaw all week the toon parkrunners had their trainers at the ready. In search of a decent run and new pbs, after all that snow and ice. However, the weather threw a massive curve ball last night; a lot of rain then freezing conditions, had us waking up to black ice everywhere.

Some of us trailed up to the moor in hope but it was like a skating rink; hence the curling reference, if only we had some stones and brushes. Even the cyclists were walking with their bikes, as they didn’t feel safe.

So weather 2 – parkrun 0, as sadly newcastle was cancelled for the second week in a row. We weren’t the only ones, as parkruns round the area were affected; like Gateshead and Sunderland. Frustrating for us and for the organizers; who bless have horrible job of turning people away. As I’d slipped and slided all the way up to the start, it was the right decision. Just a harder one for them to have to make; as unlike last week, they weren’t able to tell us the night before.

So to a new parkrun pb record of my own! This report in and my post parkrun breakfast eaten; before normally would have finished. Its a pb and I’ll add it to my collection.

Roll on next week and business as usual.

ps the breakfast was fab, if not as guilt free; not having ran !
