5th Avenue Mile, NY, 8th Sept 2019
While we were having our annual outing to South Shields, Howard MacLennan was over in New York. He ran in the 5th Avenue Mile race – and ran very quickly, finishing in 5:44 to knock 15 seconds off his mile PB.
“South down 5th Avenue from Metropolitan Musuem to Grand Army Plaza.
The first 400 meters, I knew this was fast. That long incline just before 800 meters and I was just thinking I am not sure if I can hold this pace much longer, but just keep going! Once I got over that brow; the decline, I was just able to open up and second wind kicked in! Go, Go, Go!!! It was matter of clock watching the Track Clocks along the route; every 400 meters, then the last 200 and 100 meters to hit home. Those Track Clocks along the way helped so much. Great idea!”
