parkrun, 18th January 2020

Newcastle parkrun celebrated its tenth anniversary this weekend. Running around the moor ten years ago, at the first Newcastle parkrun, was our very own Tom Tinsley, who came 15th of 43 runners. Ten years later, on a cold, wintry morning, Tom once again came 15th. This year Tom was 15th of 192 running at Leazes park. Well done Tom.

In the ten years since it started, the number of Newcastle parkrunners has increased from 43 to 701. Just one illustration of how popular and successful parkrun has been. Amongst the 701 this Saturday were 14 from Claremont. There were also a good number at Leazes parkrun. The prize for travelling the furthest to run 5K goes to Sarah Bowen who ran in Brisbane, Australia.

Congratulations to Nicky O’ Brien, Paul Hughes and Richard Slack for PBs at Newcastle, Leazes and Whitley Bay, respectively.

Well done everyone who ran or volunteered this weekend.
