Winter Handicap, 27th January 2020

It was a nice night for running down at the Quayside – a bit cold, but it is January. However there was a relatively low turnout of runners with 30 competing for the Winter Handicap trophy.

As is often the case, new members were to the fore with Dave Roberts leading the pack home with returning member Tanja Cooper in third. Just to ruin my theory, Julie Cross split the two to come second (Technically, Clare McKitterick crossed the line 2nd but as she had started ahead of her handicap as a guide runner, she did not qualify for prizes!).

Just 43 seconds separated the 3 finalists in the Winter Cup which was won by Hazel Juggins ahead of Sarah Kerr and Tom Tinsley. Sarah will have another chance for glory next time when she will be joined in the final by Julie Cross, Roberto Marzo and Mungai Wairia.

Roberto was fastest on the night in 24:48, with Paul Robinson (25:16) and Tom Tinsley (25:52) being the next quickest men. Catherine Young was fastest lady (and 3rd overall) in 25:27, followed by Sarah Kerr (26:01) and Maria Duenas (29:08).

As ever, thanks to the marshals and start and finish team for standing out in the cold so that we could run. Thanks also to Marie for organising the buffet at Don Vito’s.

Full results are here.
