Blind Date, Claremont Style, March 2021

For our latest, and perhaps final, lockdown amusement, we had a bit of fun with blind dates!

Our Cilla (aka Nina) and our Graham (aka Tom) drew random pairs of runners to on a “blind date”. The idea was that each person would run 2 miles as quickly, turning the blind date into a speed dating session! The winning pair was the one with the fastest combined time. Although the draw was random, an element of seeding was operated to ensure a fair competition.

The couple could choose to meet and run together or do their runs separately and there was a prize of bubbly, chocolates and flowers up for grabs.

Congratulations go to our winning couple – Catherine Young and Nina Jentl. Catherine and Nina both ran well to win by a fairly convincing margin from Arthur Liu and Sarah Kerr (once we had persuaded Arthur that we could use his time as recorded by Strava!), who themselves were comfortably ahead of 3rd placed Laurie Johnson and Cath Robson. From then on it was quite close with a matter of seconds between positions.
