Gordon Smith Virtual Relays, May 2021

The Gordon Smith Memorial Relays were a virtual event again this year, with competitors having a week to run a 2 mile course of their own choosing. It was for teams of 3 with each team having to include at least one veteran. Wallsend Harriers also used the event to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice.

The weather throughout the week was variable, to say the least, and some of our runners got a good soaking for their trouble! There were some great performances by the Claremont contingent with top ten finishes for both ‘A’ teams.

A very big well done to Kris Axon and Catherine Young for their very impressive individual legs. Kris was 2nd fastest overall, and Catherine who was 4th fastest lady. There were other good performances too – Sarah Kerr narrowly missing the ‘top ten’ with an 11th place finish.
