Claremont’s new base

As of Monday, 26th July, Claremont Road Runners will have a new base for our Monday and Wednesday training sessions – the brand new, well-equipped Sports Centre on the Newcastle University campus. Yes, after months of meeting at the bandstand, we will once again have use of changing rooms, lockers, showers and toilets!

The Sports Centre sits between Richardson Road and Claremont Road (just in from the North Terrace pub). This is the club returning to its roots as it was based in the then Newcastle University Sports Centre on Claremont Road 40 years ago in 1981.

In a very real sense, Claremont is coming home. So, with apologies to Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds, I’m afraid that it had to be done …

The more diligent of you may notice that there is an extra verse … I couldn’t decide which one to leave out!
