parkrun, 30th April 2022

The Town Moor benefited from an influx of Claremont Road runners this week as there was no Leazes parkrun due to another event in the park, There was also a good spread of Sky Blues around the North East and some excellent performances.

Catherine Young was 1st lady on her first outing at Cotsford Fields parkrun, which looks to be in a beautiful setting on the Durham coast. Kris Axon finished 2nd overall on the Town Moor and recorded a PB of an impressive 16:33. Sonam Wangdi and Fred Besse also got PBs on the Moor, whilst Clare McKitterick notched a PB at Druridge Bay.

However I think that the accolade of “performance of the week” must go to Joyce Archibold. Joyce’s time of 33:37 earned her an age grading of a staggering 95.49%. I don’t often check on the Age Category Records but I was sure that this would be one, and it is. In fact Joyce has the record for her last 3 age categories. Not only that, but this puts her on top of the pile for the all-time age grades at the Town Moor event. Not bad for a lady who “doesn’t like these short runs” – as she once said to me referring to the Blaydon Race! Well done, Joyce!
