NEMC Town Moor Marathon & Half, 6th November 2022

As with all North East Marathon Club events, the annual Town Moor event is a friendly, relaxed affair. There are half and full marathons, each consisting of laps around the Moor and Exhibition Park. Being held in November, the weather can often play a major part in how the run pans out, but this year it was relatively mild and dry. However, it wouldn’t be the Town Moor if there wasn’t a wind, and the Moor’s micro-climate duly obliged.

As well as providing a number of runners, Claremont volunteers always man the feed and drink station, located next to the lake. Whilst the runners had to cope with the weather and the distance, the main issue for the volunteers was staying dry! It seems that some faster runners are incapable of grabbing a cup of water at speed and are unwilling, or unable, to slow a bit in order to do so (ask Rose). So a big thank you to Bill, Terry, Rose, Clare, Gill, Mary, Paul, Shilps, Kim and Elaine for giving up so much time to help things run smoothly.

Though all the hard work was done by the runners. Ari Hodgson, Kenny McCormick, Margaux Robin and Charlotte Johnston all completed the half marathon. Margaux and Charlotte were together for the first couple of laps before Margaux pulled away to finish very strongly ahead. Ari and Kenny were also fairly close together for much of the run, though a fair distance behind the Claremont lasses!

Only Tara Hipwood was brave enough to put herself through 7 tortuous laps to run the full marathon. Tara had a really good run, and she seemed to still be full of running at the end. Well done to all.

Results to follow.
