International Women’s Day: This Girl Can Fun Run
This annual event took place on Wednesday evening starting in the Exhibition park before going out onto the Town Moor. The aim is to take part by walking, jogging or running to help celebrate the achievements and contributions of women worldwide. There was Claremont representation, although unfortunately Gill and Elizabeth were on detention at a school governor’s meeting so didn’t get there this year. However, Mary Martin, Julie Dumpleton, Alex Anslow and Sophie Hodge were part of the many hundreds who did take part. The ladies were also able to meet up with some of Cath Robson’s social running group who have attended our handicaps from time to time. As Mary said, “What an amazing night. It was great to see everyone so happy, supporting each other. That’s what it’s all about – just be as happy, healthy and as fit as you can be”.
The organisers This Girl Can Newcastle said afterwards ” We are still not over the incredible turnout we had yesterday and want to say thank you to everyone who came and took part!”
Last word goes to Mary “What a fantastic time I had with everyone. Brilliant night – love International Women’s Day”
