Bressay Parkrun, 24th June 2023
Newly-minted Claremonter Alexia O’Rourke was up attending the UK’s northernmost parkrun this morning, she sent us this report:
“Starting by getting the 9am ferry from Lerwick on the mainland of Shetland to the island of Bressay is an experience! Never thought I’d have to take a ferry to Parkrun!
Then when we arrived, there was a lovely community focus. The run director and team put a big emphasis on visiting the café at the end to help fund the island community centre, and even encouraged us to wave at an old lady, who I believe is called Ann, on our way to the start line. Turns out she sits in her window waiting to see the parkrunners every week!
It’s a lovely undulating course with nice views and lots of sheep! I was also amazed how well organised the run was! We had a bag drop car meet us at the finish with our belongings! I really hope to run Bressay again if I get the chance to go back up to Shetland.”
Though not quite able to reach the heights of last week’s PB, Alexia still ran her second-fastest ever parkrun time, of 30:15. Great running!
