Anita Nott 5K, 26th June 2023
The Anita Nott is a women only 5K race through Jesmond Dene, organised by Heaton Harriers.
This is a very popular race and there was a good turnout from the Claremont ladies. Lynne Cornell sent us her account:
“The course is an undulating route starting and finishing on Armstrong Bridge over Jesmond Dene.
It was a warm evening as we went to collect our race numbers from Millfield House Cafe in the Dene, then back up the slope to the start on the bridge which was crowded as usual.
There is a minute’s silence before the race starts and you could have heard a pin drop. All the chatter and excitement of the race stopped as soon as the whistle blew. The whistle then blew again and we were off.
Very crowded as we turned left into the Dene, down the hill, through the ‘tunnel’ to meet the path alongside the river, over the bridge across the river, shortly followed by another bridge back over the river, up the steps(!) then quite a long uphill section to the ‘tunnel’ again.
This is followed by a relatively flat section and a short uphill back to the entrance to the Dene, then the bridge over the coast road into Heaton Park. Beautiful route through Heaton Park under the trees, past the pavilion and the bowling green, then up the hill to the park entrance at Heaton Park View.
The reward for the hill was turning at the top and running downhill-lovely! Back along the same route through Heaton Park and finally the end on Armstrong Bridge. A lovely run which I always enjoy. Rewarded with water/squash and a chocolate bar.”
Well done, everybody.
