Heaton Memorial 10K, 12th November 2023
This traditional race takes place every year on Remembrance Sunday. It always starts with a minute’s silence at 11am before the runners head out for two laps of the Town Moor. Conditions this year were absolutely perfect – bright blue skies, a warm sun for the time of year and very little wind (certainly by the standards of the Town Moor!).
Charlotte Kerr started proceedings in the Under 11s race, where she covered the 1 kilometre distance in a very good time of 4:36.
In the main 10K race, Charlotte’s mum, Sarah, was one of a number of sky blues to take advantage of the good conditions. Sarah celebrated her birthday by coming 2nd in her new age category, running an excellent sub-40 minute race despite being hampered by injury.
I was very happy with my run. Like Sarah, my preparations have also been hampered by knee pains, but I had a much better run than I expected and also picked up 2nd prize in my age group.
Indeed, most people seemed happy with their times, especially Rachel Hurdman who just dipped under 50 minutes to record a 10K PB. Roberto Marzo was the fastest Claremonter on the day, showing that he has put the injuries and trauma of The Wall behind him and is really getting back to his best form.
Tara Hipwood also ran and thinks she has a 10K PB too. However she is missing from the results! I have added her to the table with her Strava time.
