The recent wet weather forced Leazes parkrun to cancel as, in Rose’s words, there was “too much lake”. With Town Moor already off due to another event taking place on the Moor, there were some last minute dashes to the other local runs with Jesmond Dene and Whitley Bay being the most popular destinations for Claremonters.
Our group of 5 at Whitley Bay were joined by a celebrity runner – comedian Ross Noble who was back in his native North East to perform two shows. Although Lena Lou didn’t know who he was, Rose Hawkswood was quite excited to meet him, and she must have made an impression as he gave her a “shout out” at his evening show!
I think performance of the week must go to Holly Porter, who was 1st female at Crichton parkrun, north of the border in Dumfries. Couch to winning a 5K in 11 months – very impressive! Nearer home, Isabel Neatrour was 2nd lady on her first outing at South Shields.
We had the usual sprinkling of tourism, with Tooting Common looking as wet as any North East course for Ann and Eddie Smith. In total contrast, we had Maria Duenas sending us photos of blue skies and kangaroos from Australia, while Laurie Johnson was also enjoying the sunshine at Ambleside – though this was not the Ambleside in Cumbria that we all know and love, but nearly 4,500 miles away in Vancouver, Canada.
