Leazes parkrun had already been cancelled this week due to a lack of volunteers, and it was joined by many others as a cold snap hit the North East. Denton Dene, Whitley Bay, Gateshead, Riverside and Herrington Country Park were all cancelled due to unsafe, icy paths. Town Moor survived but was re-routed to avoid the worst of the ice. However, conditions must have been better at Rising Sun as all 3 Claremonters got PBs! Laurie Johnson had the opposite to contend with at Tyne Green, desperately lacking trail shoes in an absolute mudbath.
By comparison it was a positively sub-tropical 8 degrees in Harrow for Gill Milne and Tom Tinsley (one of our regular haunts!). Also benefitting from being on tour, Holly Porter ran at the wonderfully named Conkers parkrun in Leicestershire and Cate Walker bagged a PB at Delamere. Alex Anslow joined the HRH’s local parkrun at Sandringham, though I don’t think any of them were there!
Aoife Monaghan and Jack Shawcross were less lucky tourists, turning up at Enniskillen only to find the event also cancelled due to bad weather.
