As the cold weather returned, there were a few cancellations due to icy paths. Leazes was amongst the casualties, as was Keswick where a group of Claremonters had headed for a bit of tourism. Luckily for them, Whinlatter Forest was still on – well, perhaps not that lucky as Whinlatter is rated the 2nd toughest parkrun in the country, and the B course was in use to make it even harder!
They weren’t the only Claremont tourists. Aoife Monaghan made the pilgrimage to Bushy Park, Cate Walker was in Cheshire at Delamere, Rachel Hurdman was north of the border at Perth and Lucy Ward made the trip to Millennium Country parkrun, Forest of Marston Vale in Bedfordshire. Cate and Rachel were on familiar ground, though, and both got course PBs.
There were other sky blues on form too -with PBs for Chris Jones at Druridge Bay, and Dave Roberts and Rose Hawkswood at Jesmond Dene.
There was drama at the Town Moor with a car crash on Grandstand Road just after 9am forcing the event to be stopped. Thankfully no-one was hurt and the run was restarted at 9:30 on a modified route. Well done to the event team for going above and beyond to keep the show on the road.
