Although it was still a bit blustery, there was nothing like the recent high winds and it was much milder too. Perhaps encouraged by the spring-like weather, there was an excellent turnout this weekend with over 40 Sky Blues participating in a parkrun.
We spread ourselves around too, but the prize for tourist of the week goes to Mungai Wairia who is in the USA to run in the Boston Marathon. As he has done before, Mungai took in Jamaica Pond parkrun. This time he notched up a course PB (though I think he must have taken it easy last time!). Good luck, Mungai, here’s hoping for another strong run over the 26.2 miles.
There was also a bit of tourism in this country. Alexia O’Rourke was in Lincolnshire, where she accompanied her father on his first ever parkrun. Sophie Richardson ran in London and Izzy Neatrour moved a bit further north after last week’s Brighton marathon to run at the lovely Endcliffe Park in Sheffield. Izzy finished as 2nd female, so the legs have obviously recovered!
In fact, it was an incredibly successful week for the Claremont ladies, as 6 others joined Izzy in having a podium finish. Heather Steel, Niki Szlovak, Sophie Douglas (in a PB) and Sarah Kerr all finished as 1st female at Gateshead, Riverside, Rising Sun and Herrington Country Park respectively. Sonja Fenske was 2nd at Jesmond Dene and Holly Porter joined Sophie on the methaphorical Rising Sun podium with a 3rd place finish.
As well as Mungai and Sophie, lots of other Claremont Road Runners began their Saturday by celebrating a course PB. The Smith household must have been a happy one, with both Ann and Eddie grabbing PBs at South Shields. They were joined by Jose Gallego on the Town Moor, Lucy Ward at Prudhoe, Jim Crinnion and Dave Roberts at Leazes Park and, Chris Jones and Roberto Marzo at Denton Dene.
