Team Captain’s Award Winner 2024: Holly Porter
Following Gill Milne’s win in 2023, this season’s Team Captain’s award went to a relative newcomer, having only completed the Couch to 5k programme with Claremont a year ago: Holly Porter.
Holly has thrown herself enthusiastically into the world of club running. Only 4 people represented the club more times over the past year, and Holly was a participant in multiple relay events, as well as turning out for every Harrier League cross-country fixture, where she was our 2nd highest placed runner in the final individual rankings for the Senior Women.
Holly was also an ever-present in the Claremont team that finished an incredible 3rd in the North Shields Poly Grand Prix, with her placing 12th (out of over 200 runners) in the individual table.
Outside of the club, she became a regular parkrunner, and her seemingly ceaseless improvement is reflected in the progression of her times, her most recent PB over 10 minutes quicker than the one she set at her C25K graduation. Only a few weeks ago, she competed in her first ever half-marathon, in typically speedy fashion.
Running and being part of a club is open to anyone, and ideally a mixture of fun, healthy challenges, and camaraderie, amongst other things. Holly has proved by embracing all of these that she is a perfect example to follow for any runners, beginners and veterans alike, and a fantastic ambassador for Claremont Road Runners. Congratulations Holly, a worthy winner!
