No Leazes, so good attendances at other local runs with 7 each at Jesmond Dene and the Town Moor. Just a couple of Claremonters on tourism this week, though Izzy Neatrour went some way to make up for the rest of us by visiting the most northerly parkrun in the country – Bressay in the Shetland Isles! Sophie Richardson headed in the opposite direction to run at Richmond Park in London.
Back in the North East, the heavy overnight rain was fizzling out by parkrun o’clock, but there had been enough of it to leave its mark on some of the courses. That was certainly the case at Jesmond Dene where the run director’s declaration that “Our puddle has returned and it has brought some of its friends with it” induced a chuckle from the regulars and apprehension in the rest of us! There were certainly a couple of water features. The advice to run straight through them was largely followed, so wet feet all round! However, none of this stopped Luke O’Neill from getting a course PB. Jesmond Dene also witnessed a rare parkrun outing for Howard MacLennan – only his 8th spread over 8 years.
Cate Walker followed up last week’s PB at Gateshead with another, this time at Windy Nook where she finished as 1st female. Dave Roberts has been a PB-machine recently and continued the trend with a PB at Denton Dene. Roberto Marzo joined Dave in notching up a Denton Dene PB, and Alex Anslow was on form with a PB on the hills of Chopwell Wood.
Once again, there were Claremont ladies on the parkrun podium. As well as Cate’s 1st place, we had Sophie Douglas coming 2nd at Chopwell Wood and Niki Szlovak was 3rd at Riverside.
