Cookson 10K, 15th May 2024
It was a pleasant evening and good running conditions for this 10K which takes place on roads and trails around North Tyneside. It is a 2-lap course, starting at Monkseaton High School, passing North Tyneside General Hospital then turning onto more countryish lanes and tracks past Murton village and back. Although it is billed as a fast and flat(ish) course, the inclines, turns and paths that are uneven in places mean that PBs are probably unlikely.
That said, there were some very good times. Eric Adams dipped under the 40 minutes and Paul Robinson feels that he would have done but for “Lace came loose after 6k and my shoe nearly flew off, then needed a wee after 7k…then got a stitch for the rest”. Next year, Paul, next year!
Izzy Neatrour and Holly Porter led the way for the Claremont ladies and had a good race between themselves, changing positions before Izzy finally took the lead. Aaron Mansell also seemed to be doing a good job in giving up his own race to pace a friend around.
The fastest club members on the night were actually two of our second claim runners, Jack Shawcross finishing in 35:57 and Anton Mirafsari, despite having a stone in his shoe for much of the race, in 39:04.
