With the Town Moor still waiting for The Hoppings to clear off the course, attendances were once again swelled at other venues across the North East, though Claremont Road Runners spread themselves the length and breadth off the country.
At the northern extreme, Ann and Eddie Smith became the latest Sky Blues to sample the delights of a parkrun in the Shetland Islands, while Sophie Richardson was still in Cornwall where she ran at Penryn Campus. In between, Laurie and Sonam combined a trip to a gig in Nottingham with a visit to a convoluted course called Forest Rec. Laurie mastered the twists and turns to finish as 3rd male, 4th overall.
Tara Hipworth was in Moss Side, Manchester and Holly Porter returned to the familiar surroundings of Market Bosworth Country Park. This was Holly’s third time running there and she has got faster each time – her 2nd consecutive PB being enough to secure victory as 1st female.
Nearer home, Aoife Monaghan made an impressive debut as a pacemaker. Set the task of pacing 27 minutes at Blyth Links, Aoife came home in 26:59 – perfect!
Finally, there was some cause for celebration at our Leazes Park home, where Nikoletta Szlovak marked her 100th parkrun by losing her 100 balloon before she had even started! There were PBs for Dave Roberts and JIm Crinnion too. Paced this time by Harry Mawdsley, Dave is getting close to the magic 20 minute mark – just 6 more seconds to go!
