Open to all ages, last time our youngest was 3 years old. Just turn up ready to run, jog or walk.
Your chance to get a time for running a mile, sprinting 100m and to see how easy relay running is. Teams will be made up on the night.
Also try your hand a throwing a howler for distance and see if you can do the best standing long jump on the night.
With the Great North Run just a few days past we’ll have materials for you to do a bit of art with that event for inspiration.
Prizes and certificates for all participants.
Report of Fun Running Event, 21st August 2013
In Newcastle upon Tyne, as part of the Community Games initiative, a Fun Running event was held on the balmy evening of 21st August by Claremont Road Runners. People from aged 3 upwards took part in testing themselves running a mile, fun relays with fragile relay batons such as ripe bananas and raw eggs, throwing the duck for distance and standing long jump. The event opened with a welcome and closed with prizes and certificates for all who took part. The aim is to encourage athletics to be experienced as a fun as well as a competitive activity.
The Exhibition Park venue was busy with other activites at the time and some international students and joggers passing through took time out from their activity to take part too. The outdoor boot camp people were too tired by the time they finished but with another months training we hope they will join us for our next Fun Running Event on 18th September – same time (6pm -8pm) , same place (Exhibition Park, by Town Moor).
