Hartlepool Marina 5 Mile Race – 29th March 2015
Mr Grimshaw was out and about again this weekend, though this time to a race much nearer home. Here is his report from Sunday’s run at Hartlepool:
It was a cold, blustery and overcast day but mercifully the rain stayed away. Also by the time the race started the wind had also dropped.
The race was a flat, fast, out and back race with the start and finish being in the same area. It started at the historic quay before going a short distance along closed roads to the promenade which you followed all the way to Seaton Carew before returning to the start/finish.
The HQ was on a steam ship on the Quay (HMS Trincomalee) so the collection of race numbers was therefore fairly painless.
Some 516 racers competed and there was not the usual crush of slow runners at the front you normally get!
There were few, but enthusiastic number of supporters, and you were warned that the promenade was not closed so to be aware of other users but there were no incidents I saw!
There was good support at the end, with a drink and T -Shirt to collect. However, although there were 3 staff at the T-Shirts only one was giving them out, causing a significant queue (mainly after I had finished so no problem!!!) Did a 37:36 (first 5 mile race) but went through 5K at 23:21 which was a season fastest so pleased. Full result is in one of the photos.
