Autumn Handicap 26th October 2015
It was a mild, dry evening on the Quayside without the usual wind that blows down the Tyne Valley. So, all in all, good conditions for the runners.
Lotte Gale, a newcomer to Claremont handicaps, romped home as a very clear winner. It won’t be so easy next time, Lotte! David Devennie improved from last place in the Summer to finish a very creditable second this time out while Daisy Martin, another first timer, gave her all in third place.
Fastest on the night was Luke Jones in 23:40, followed by Jonathan Gilroy (23:57) and Paul Robinson (24:40). The fastest lady home was a guest, Lisa Harpin in 27:51 while Heather Steel showed that she is getting back to fitness as fastest Claremont lady in 28:09. Mandy Herworth (28:41) and Sarah Kerr (28:50) completed the Claremont ladies top 3.
The Autumn Cup final was contested by Mary Martin, David Reay, Richard Slack and Sarah Kerr. Mary was defending the title she won in Summer, but it was David who came out on top ahead of Sarah, for whom it was her 3rd consecutive final.
David will have the chance to hold onto the trophy next time out when he will compete in the Winter Cup final. The other finalists will be Janet Palmer, John Grimshaw and Luke Woodend.
