Autumn Handicap, 23rd October 2017
The recent winds and rain abated and it turned out to be a decent evening for a run along the Quayside. There was a good turnout of 45 runners including a number of guests.
One of the guests, Kay Lee who had been chaperoned by Gill Milne, led from start to finish and managed to hold off the challenge from fast-finishing Paul-Emile Mangin by 2 seconds. First Claremont member home and winner of the trophy was Christopher Gillie, with Cath Robson second and Lucy Dunbar third.
Fastest on the night in a time of 24:35 was John Lea-Wilson. Anthony Liddle and James Rainbow were the other 2 sub-25 minute runners finishing in 24:48 and 24:53. The quickest lady was the in-form Nicki O’Brien in 28:21, followed by Sarah Kerr in 29:03 and Lucy Dunbar in 29:13.
Dave Kear was a clear winner of the Autumn Cup, becoming the first person to win it twice since the introduction of the new format. Howard MacLennan was runner-up with Mungai Wairia third.
Dave won’t be able to defend his title in January when the final will be contested by Matt Diment, Janet Palmer, Anthony Liddle and Arthur Liu – so Arthur will have to come out and run in the cold!
As ever, thanks to the marshals, start and finish team and everybody else who helped.
