Durham Cathedral Summer Relays, 21st August 2019

After some years further along the River Wear at Maiden Castle, cancellation last year and a trip to Birtley for the winter version of this relay race, it was a welcome return to a venue where you could actually see the Cathedral!  This is an interesting course with 2 laps, of approximately 1500m each, entirely on grass fields.  About a third of the way around there is a short, steep climb, the reward for which is a nice view of the Durham skyline – the Cathedral and Castle.   We were also lucky in that the weather was kind and it was a pleasant evening for running and spectating.

The two races are mixed – the first race was for Senior teams where we had just the one ladies team.  The second race was for teams of male and female veterans or mixed gender teams – here we had two male teams, one female and one mixed team.
