New York Marathon, 3rd November 2019

It was two of the elder Claremont Road Runners who crossed the pond to compete in the New York Marathon this year, Mungai Wairia and Joyce Archibold, and both did exceptionally well.

Congratulations to both on enjoying excellent runs, but particularly to the amazing Joyce who won her age group by nearly 25 minutes from her nearest challenger.

Not only did Joyce win her age group in this race, but she will have claimed another place in the age-specific world records for marathon running. The table below has not been updated, but Joyce will have the 84 year record to go along with the one she still holds for 78 year olds. Incredible!

A well deserved tweet from Paula Ratcliffe!
Paula meets a world record holder!

Paula meets a running legend!

Mungai is amazing too and it wouldn’t surprise me if he joins Joyce in these lists in 15 or 20 years time!

Not only were Claremont represented amongst the runners, but Richard and Marie Slack were part of the volunteer team, helping out at the finish area. Mungai also represented Kenya in the Parade of Nations in Central Park the day before.

Looks like everybody had a great time!
