After the freezing conditions saw some cancellations last week, Claremont Road Runners availed themselves of several North East parkrun’s this Saturday, the Newcastle ‘big 3’ welcoming a massive 12 sky blue runners to Leazes (volunteer team guided by the steady hand of run director David Lydall), with 4 each at Jesmond and Town Moor.
I don’t know a great deal about the American political system, but Claremont boasted not one, but two first ladies this weekend. Sarah Kerr went north to Morpeth, while Nikki Szlovák was also 2nd overall out at Druridge Bay. Izzy Neatrour got in on the podium action as 2nd lady at Jesmond Dene, with Julie Cross setting a course PB.
Not to be outdone, the legions at Leazes turned out some good performances. Rachel Hurdman and Dave Roberts nabbed a course PB each, the latter able to console himself with this achievement, after losing out to Tom Tinsley in a dramatic sprint finish.
There were some tourists a bit further afield this week. Luke Woodend could be found on the east coast, in sight of the Isle of Man at Maryport Prom, and Chris Jones debuted at Highbury Fields down in London.
