A drizzly morning in the North East didn’t stop plenty of our runners from getting their parkrun fix today.
Kris Axon journeyed over to the coast with a large cohort of Wallsend Harriers, crossing the line at Whitley Bay in an impressive 1st place, more than 30 seconds ahead of the next finisher.
In similar fashion, the numbers were swelled at Leazes by Newcastle Frontrunners, running their latest grand prix fixture in the shadow of St. James’ Park. Lucy Keating, closing in on her 450th parkrun, finished well as 3rd lady.
Hot on the heels of Leazes recent 100th event, Jesmond Dene finally celebrated their own centenary today. Claremont runners and volunteers in attendance were able to sample the frankly mouth-watering amount of cake on offer.
Five of us (plus Kim’s canine friend Rossi) ventured across to Prudhoe, an often muddy course made that bit more slippery by the rain that had been pouring fairly heavily until about 10 minutes before the start. A couple of pleasant, mostly flat laps through the country park woodland, were slightly marred by the overpowering sewage smell down the back straight. Still, the verdant surroundings and ‘live’ music make it a worthwhile visit. Coming back into some good form, Izzy Neatrour followed up last weeks PB with a 2nd lady placing down by the riverside.
After their Bristol adventure last week, Tom and Gill were back in the deep south visiting their son, rocking up to a familiar haunt of theirs at Harrow in London. A quick check of the results reveals Tom was a mere 4 seconds shy of setting a course record for his age group, surely incentive to return for another crack soon!
