Sand Dancer 10K, 23rd April 2023
This Sunday morning, the eyes of most of the running world were on London, but there was another popular race taking place in South Shields. Lynne Cornell and Clare McKitterick represented the Sky Blues in the Sand Dancer 10K. Lynne sent this report:
“Whilst others travelled much further afield this week I took myself over/under the water to South Shields for the Sand Dancer 10k. The organisers final instructions warned of potential ‘character building’ conditions of rain and a ‘fresh’ breeze along the Leas in South Shields but when we arrived the sun was shining and there wasn’t a breath of wind. It’s a lovely course (advertised as undulating and multi-terrain) that starts at the Sand Dancer pub and goes along the coastal path towards Souter, then turns back towards South Shields along a grass track with lots of white marks kindly pointing out the holes to avoid, then back along to coastal path for lap 2, back along the grass track and finally down the hill to the promenade then along to Gypsies Green stadium for a lap to the finish line where a medal and a buff waited. Plus a bottle of water which was much needed on a warm day and no water on the course. A really well organised lovely run. Well done to the other Claremont Road Runner, Clare McKitterick, who also did it.”
