Tynedale Pie n Peas 10K, 5th July 2023

It was a few years since I had done this race and that was the year that it took place in torrential rain! Thankfully, it was a nice evening as we made our way along the Tyne Valley to Prudhoe, and registration in the Adam and Eve pub. There were 4 of us in the car, one debutant and 3 slightly(!) more experienced runners. Out of us, Gill Milne had done this event the most and this is how she summed up this year:

“It was a lovely evening for a run and the route is fast with a fast downhill start from Ovington along to Wylam and then back along the other side of the Tyne to Prudhoe. The locals come out to support and the thought of a nice drink and pie and peas at the end is a good incentive.

It was Holly’s first official 10K run and she was brilliant coming in at well under the hour.  I was able to track Cath for most of the race before we ran the last couple of miles together picking off a few other runners as we went along. Cath had more of a finish in her than me but NO ONE gets past us in the finishing straight.

The pie and peas didn’t touch the sides and we enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine before the results were announced. I was really happy for Tom although I know he will obsess about those 8 seconds!  I hope to do the run next year with hopefully a few more Claremonters. Note to Lena and Marianna – vegan pies are available! “

I think that Holly chose a nice event for her debut. It is a beautiful course and more downhill than up (although Gill described it as “fast”, it didn’t feel easy!), with the added bonus of pie ‘n’ peas served in the pub at the end. If you haven’t done this before, it is definitely worth considering for next year.
