Montane Lakeland 50, 29th July 2023

As it name suggests, the Montane Lakeland is a 50 mile ultra-marathon, set in the Lake District. The course, which has 2965 metres of ascent, starts at Dalemain at the northern end of Ullswater, and finishes at Coniston.

Despite being a veteran of numerous ultras, including The Wall, Simon Lowe described it as “The hardest race I’ve ever done.” Simon finished an impressive 120th of of 1700(ish) runners, completing the course in 11 hours and 11 minutes. He has promised to write a proper summary “when I feel human again”.

Well done, Simon – now have a well earned rest.
