A number of parkrun regulars were in the Derwent Valley for the Gateshead Trail 10K, and this, combined with holiday season, meant that there were fewer Claremonters than normal to help Alex Harding mark his 300th parkrun (he had kept it quiet!) at Leazes Park. Though we were still in double figures with 6 running and 5 more volunteering. Alex also has 245 volunteer credits to his name, showing his incredible commitment to the parkrun cause. One of only two PBs of the day was also at Leazes – well done to the fast-improving Aaron Mansell! The other PB was achieved by Chris Jones just up the coast at Newbiggi-by-the-Sea.
Perhaps surprisingly, the return of the Town Moor only saw two sky blues and there were none at Jesmond Dene. So although there were not so many running closer to home, a few manged parkruns on their travels. Luke Woodend was in Whitby for the delightfully named Cinder Track parkrun, David Lydall, Sophie Douglas and Lucy Keating were all on the south coast at Upton Park, Exmouth and Margate respectively. Showing her determination to collect the alphabet in record time, Cate Walker crossed the North Sea to collect a “Z” at Zuiderpark in The Hague.
Addendum: Congratulations to Piper Robinson who ran her 50th junior parkrun this Sunday at Gateshead. Hopefully a future Claremont Road Runner in the making! Mum and Dad are very proud!
