This Saturday temperatures plummeted in the North East, following the (slightly wet) Indian summer of recent weeks.
One person escaping the chilly environs was Elizabeth O’Mahony. Further saturating the Antipodes with Claremont presence, Elizabeth was visiting the south east coast of Australia, and was able to rally herself into doing Huskisson parkrun, despite having had to spend a week isolating after catching Covid on the flight over. Hopefully she won’t be tempted to join the ranks of Claremont-Australian emigrants, and be back with us soon! Staying in Europe, I was also revelling in some unseasonable warmth just outside of Warsaw.
Lucy Keating ventured out of the north east too, though a relative stones throw, to Phillips Park in Greater Manchester. She also finished impressively as 2nd lady, making up a full Claremont podium with Heather Steel and Nikki Szlovák, respectively 1st and 3rd at Gateshead and Riverside.
Holly Porter has been improving in leaps and bounds recently. Having only run under 25 minutes for the first time a couple of months ago (albeit by a great margin), she is already knocking on the door of sub-24, recording a fantastic PB, all the more impressive for being on the muddy trails of Ashington Community Woodland.
Speaking of which, Rachel Hurdman was ecstatic to finally break the 25 minute barrier herself at Town Moor, and substantially so, with Niamh Garratt also improving on her previous outing there.
