Run For All Yorkshire 10 Mile, 15th October 2023

Undeterred by recent setbacks, Lynne Cornell sent this report from sunny Yorkshire:

“I entered the Yorkshire 10 mile race several months ago as I love the city. However, injury after the Redcar half at the end of September meant I have done no running in the past 4 weeks apart from a small amount of run/walk in the last 10 days. I was delighted on Friday when the physio said I could give the Yorkshire 10 mile run a go – no transfers/ deferrals allowed after 6 weeks before the race!

The advice was to walk 1.5 miles then run .5 mile, repeat and walk up to the 5 mile point and if I felt OK then, to run the remaining 5 miles but not go mad!!!! I must admit I was rather pensive as I took my place at the back of the start at the University, ready to follow the instructions I had been given. It was certainly a bit odd starting a race by walking it but I had a great time and the support around York was amazing.

A beautiful day for a run/walk and a lovely course that takes in the Minster and the Walls, then along Stockton Lane to Holtby Lane, into the countryside through Murton and Osbaldwick, and back up the hill (!) to the University where a really good goodie bag was waiting. Steve was really impressed with the proper chocolate in it this time!!! I must have been grinning like a Cheshire cat as I made my way down the hill to the finish line. Not my quickest ever 10 mile race, but so enjoyed it and the feeling of being able to run again.”
