Palma Half-Marathon, 20th October 2024

While our cross-country runners were preparing to brave the elements, Heather Steel and Jack Shawcross faced a challenge presented by a rather different climate, that of running a half-marathon in the heat of Palma, Mallorca.

A non-Claremont runner (my cousin) summed it up as : “Very warm here today, tough morning! The temperature (25) doesn’t do justice to how hot and humid it is. Absolutely no breeze and no cloud cover, sun blasting in your face from mile 4.” Heather concurred, saying: “Yeah, it was hot”.

This was Heather’s first trip, but for Jack, running in his 1st claim Heaton Harriers vest, it was his 9th consecutive year at the event!
