With no Town Moor this week, due to the celebration for Newcastle United (finally) winning a domestic cup, there was an even greater than usual Claremont presence at Leazes Park, with no fewer than 15 runners taking part – 5 of whom recorded course PBs! So congratulations to Peter Noble, Helen Ingham, Tara Hipwood, Aoife Monagahan and Aoife Campbell, who also finished as 1st female. It was also Helen’s 100th parkrun, so a great way to celebrate the milestone.
Elsewhere in the North East, Rising Sun was the place to be for PBs, with Claremont having a 100% success rate – well, 2 out of 2 (Holly Porter and Lena Lou). There was also an impressive 3rd place for Mark Anderson and Jesmond Dene, and a 3rd place, though in a very small field, for Tom Tinsley at Windy Nook. Cate Walker and Laurie Johnson ventured a bit further afield to Hartlepool.
On the tourism front, North Yorkshire was the place to be, with sky blue participation at 3 events – Izzy Neatrour was in Whitby, Claire Taylor at Thorp Perrow and Lucy Ward was running around the racecourse in York.
Further south, Cath Robson took in yet another London parkrun, this time at the wonderfully named Lordship Recreation Ground. This was her take on the experience: “Been down that there London ticking many family ‘n’ friends boxes and squeezing in another parkrun venue – Lordship Recreation Ground. If you prefer iconic locations, beautiful views and ample free parking, this is probably not one for you but if you need an ‘L’, appreciate urban green spaces and like a community vibe then this hits the spot! Three and a bit laps round an almost level field (so plenty of fast lads and lasses hammering past) with a volunteer-run cafe in the community hub at the end. Also an opportunity to admire the artwork decorating a wall of the brutal architecture of the (in)famous Broadwater Farm housing project.”
There is no contest however for Tourist of the Week. Lily Crouzier followed up her 1st female finishes in Cape Town with yet another one … this time at Shingashigawa Ukima in Tokyo!
