Once again, we spread ourselves out around the North East and further afield, with a sky blue presence at 14 different parkruns. I don’t know about elsewhere but there was definitely a case of “wind chill” along the seafront at Whitley Bay, where each lap was a “lap of two halves” – into the wind along the prom and blown back along the links. So not the easiest conditions, but it didn’t stop Diana Walmsley from clocking up a course PB.
While some of us were trying to conserve energy ahead of Sunday’s Pier to Pier race, Holly Porter and Mark Anderson had no such qualms as they ran PBs at Town Moor and Rising Sun respectively. In fact, Mark could easily have taken his foot off the gas as he came first by a margin of over a minute.
There was also a 2nd female finish for Catherine Young on her first foray over the border at Wallaceneuk just outside Kelso. Nearer home, Lily Crouzier went to Leazes for the first time and came 3rd in the women’s table.
Lucy Ward went west to Talkin Tarn and also grabbed a course PB. Cate Walker and Laurie Johnson were at Jubilee Park in Spennynoor where they make the most of the area available on a winding multi-lap route, and Laurie made the most of it with another PB run.
Further afield, Anton Mirafsari was in North Yorkshire, while Niamh Garratt became the latest in a string of Claremont Road Runners to sample the delights of Endcliffe Park in Sheffield. We also had another international tourist this week, with JIm Crinnion running at Bergen in Norway.
