Edinburgh Marathon, 25th May 2025
4 Claremont Road Runners braved a blustery Edinburgh this Sunday, to complete the marathon distance at this year’s festival.
It wasn’t Mungai Wairia’s first rodeo in the Scottish capital, but it was yet another age category first, to add to the two recent half victories from Gateshead and Sunderland, both of which would’ve seen a much smaller number of participants. In somewhat self-effacing fashion, Mungai seemed more interested in the fact that his time was 2 minutes slower than his attempt 11 years ago. Amazing to run it so close after so much time has passed, and we were all a lot younger then, Mungai!
Aaron Mansell expressed disappointment in a time 25 minutes slower than his Manchester effort last year, but admitted the injury he’d been carrying had prepared him for such an eventuality.
Niamh Garratt and Zoë Jukes ran the course together, maintaining a sunny disposition in the face of wind and giant hailstones, their many, many hours of hard training paying off. Well done all for persevering through the dreich!
A shout-out for Sophie Richardson, whose time with us ended recently after relocating to London. She was back up north to put in a good showing in the half.
