Run Northumberland Hexham 10k, 20th July 2025
Lynne Cornell’s third race in four days, I’ve given up wondering where she gets the energy:
“I last did this race in 2022 and whilst it’s not one of my favourites I do enjoy it. The last time I did it, it was a September race which has now been moved to July. The forecast virtually all week had been for rain. It certainly didn’t materialise and by the time we lined up at the start just outside of Fentimans Head Office on Anick Road, the sun was beating down.
At 10 sharp we were off. The route goes along cycle route 72 to the outskirts of Corbridge and back. At about 1k I spotted some lively horses on the grass verge and was hoping they weren’t loose on the course. It turns out they were tethered very close to the edge of the road. No more excitement apart from a car on the course despite the road being closed.
The turn around point this year was just after the Corbridge Roman Town site and shortly after this, thankfully, was the water stop. Like Durham, I carried a small bottle of water with me, but still took full advantage of the water stop. When we came to the horses on the way back they had settled down and ignored the runners this time.
Once at the end of Anick Road it was left over the bridge over the Tyne, a sharp left through a pedestrian tunnel under the road, and onto the final stretch to the finish line at Tyne Green. Thankfully water and a can of Fentimans were waiting.”
Another great time for Lynne (49:19) and another category 1st place!
