Norman Woodcock Relays, 2nd November 2025

A cool but delightfully sunny Sunday morning at Newcastle Racecourse saw an unprecedented 7 Claremont teams out for the Norman Woodcock Relays (having managed 5 for the past couple of years).

The main criteria for this particular event, is that each team of 3 must contain at least one woman. Not a problem for Claremont Road Runners, as ever we were heavily weighted toward female dominance, with only 5 men featuring amongst our 21 participants tackling the 1.7 mile/2.7km loop.

Our ‘A’ team was unchanged from last year, and despite Harry Mawdsley shaving about 20 seconds off his course best, they didn’t quite manage to match their previous 9th place. Still, 14th out of almost 100 teams is far from shabby!

There were speedy runs and course PB’s for several of our runners, and a great relay debut for Sarah Taylor, handing over from second leg to her namesake. Thanks also to Sonam Wangdi for stepping in at short notice due to injury, and to Tom and Gill for turning up with their predictably excellent sweet and savoury baking, despite neither being down to run!
