Font Vella Lanzarote 10k, 6th December 2025

After an impromptu fun run on Thursday, it was time for Lynne Cornell to get down to serious business:

“This was a race I entered in July when I was thinking of getting some winter sunshine and it certainly was sunny!

There are actually 3 races take place in the same morning and all finish at the same place. The marathon started at 8:00, the half marathon at 10:30 and the 10k at 12:00.

I left the accommodation at 9:45 to catch the bus (included with my entry) to the start at Arrecife. We were dropped off at 10:30 giving loads of time to hang around.  It did mean we could watch the marathon and the half marathon runners going past and there was lots of cheering and clapping which hopefully helped the runners, who all looked rather warm. Plus a headwind- I was glad I had decided just to do the 10k.

Then it was our turn to line up.  The Zumba man from the Santa run was there again with 15 minutes of Zumba to warm us up, just in case we were cold in 24 degree heat!

The timing strips were then laid out, the Spanish national anthem was played and we were off. Downhill to begin with to the seafront. Then through an industrial area, past the power station to the first hill. Once at the top, it was over the bridge over the motorway and down the slip road to Las Caletas where we joined the beautiful, undulating coastal path. I’ve cycled this route so knew we were in for a treat with gorgeous views across the sea. Lots of spectators at this point and shouts of ‘vamos’.

We arrived in Costa Teguise and the final hill as we went off the coastal path and onto the roads that led to the finish. A very welcome bottle of water although I carried water with me due to the heat and there were 3 water stations on the 10k, so I wasn’t going to dehydrate. Also a massive array of slices of fruit which were most welcome. No chocolate so Steve a bit (a lot) disappointed!

A 2 minute walk back to the accommodation and a welcome cup of tea.

A most enjoyable run and very well organised. Could be tempted by the half another year!”

Lynne finished as 1st “Veterano Femenino” in a time of 50:55.
