parkrun, 10th January 2026

Whilst we may have been spared the worst excesses of Storm Goretti, the winter weather still had its icy grip on the North East, causing the cancellation of all but a few parkruns.

Attendances were swelled at those that did manage to go ahead, with Windy Nook seeing a record attendance – 300 finishers smashing the previous record of 215. It may not have been a record at Blyth Links, but it wasn’t far off, the high turnout causing queues to cross the finish line (I think you could knock about 30 seconds off Gill Milne’s time if she hadn’t had to wait her turn!). The cold weather didn’t stop Lena Lou, the 2025 PB machine, who has started 2026 in equally good form, getting home ahead of the queues in a course PB.

Further up the coast, the Smiths also showed that they mean business in 2026 with both Ann and Eddie getting course PBs at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

Our only tourist this week was Jim Crinnion, who ran himself dizzy doing 5 laps of the field in Highbury, down in that there London.
