There was a large Claremont contingent for this one, but more of us were marshalling than running! Those that did competed in 2 races – the A race for the speed merchants predicted to run sub-20 minutes, and the B race for everybody else.
Our representative in the A race, Harry Mawdsley, ran very well, though the fact that his excellent time of 16:26 put him in 65th place shows just how many very fast runners there were. It was a sight to behold for the 16 strong Claremont volunteer team (including some family and friends), and hopefully we provided some friendly faces and support to the sky blues running.
Myself and our friend Verity had the task of directing the runners off the path onto a short stretch of grass with a slight step up and a tree stump covered by an orange cone to avoid! I think it was fair to say that this came as a surprise to most of the runners hurtling along the riverside path, and may well have cost them a second or two. As this was a couple of hundred metres or so before the turning point, it did mean that there was a bit more space for the returning runners – so perhaps they got that second back!
Looking at the times, it didn’t slow anybody down too much! Well done to all, marshals and runners alike.
