It may just have been on the coast, but it was certainly windy at Whitley Bay, where I couldn’t figure out why we seemed to be running into it in both directions! I don’t know if Windy Nook lived up to its name, but it didn’t stop Sarah Taylor claiming a course PB. The Town Moor is well known for the strength of the wind there, even on still days elsewhere, but there was another Claremont PB – this time for Harry Mawdsley (despite describing his run as “a shocker”). There were also PBs for Laurie Johnson, at Prudhoe, and – I think you could guess this one – for Lena Lou, this time in Morpeth. Lena was also 2nd female.
We may not have had any runners at Jesmond Dene, but we had a couple of marshals. Luke Woodend, for one, was delighted to get a “Thank you, marshall” from double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.
As ever, we spread ourselves around the North East, with one or two venturing further afield. Aoife Monaghan crossed over into Cumbria for a turn around Talkin Tarn, and Dave Roberts ran along one of his favourite beaches in Northern Ireland. Chris Jones was also on his travels. A couple of weeks ago, Chris was our most northerly runner, and this time he was our most southerly- at Egham in Surrey.
