Run The Lights Blackpool 10k, 15th August 2026
An illuminating report from the nomadic Lynne Cornell:
“A little while ago the other green goddess sent me a list of ‘quirky ‘ runs and amongst them was Run the Lights in Blackpool, with a ‘blingtastic’ glow in the dark medal. We were tempted. After a lovely day of exploring Fleetwood (home to the manufacturer of Fisherman’s Friends) we carb loaded at 4:00, had a mystery tour on the number 14 bus back to Blackpool and went to collect our run numbers at the seafront near the north pier. Back to the B&B to get ready.
Adorned with tutus, flower garlands and glow sticks, we made our way back to the seafront and the start of the run at 9pm. Lots of people wearing lights. The start was rather busy and it took 5 minutes to get over the start line. Not that we minded as we looked at other people’s lights and made notes for future evening runs.
We ran up a ramp onto the promenade and headed north then south along the front under the illuminations (switched on specially for the run) to the South Pier and beyond. There were some fantastic costumes and we managed to burn off an inflatable cow in the first mile.
The support along the route was great including ‘go tutus you’re alright’. At the turning point there was a welcome bottle of water and then we returned to the start which had become the finish. The illuminations were beautiful and included reliving our childhood with Sooty, Sweep, Soo and Harry Corbett, plus for those younger readers, Sponge Bob Squarepants. The Tower was beautifully lit as we made our way north and after passing the North Pier we were soon back at the ramp and heading back to the finish to collect our ‘blingtastic’ glow in the dark medals.
We then made our way towards the tower for more photos. Lots of friendly well done from revellers in various states of sobriety!
A fantastic night. Just wondering what Susan has lined up next!”
