After some exotic tourism in the past few weeks, we kept it fairly local on a cool, bright morning in the North East. With three exceptions.
Following a first visit last year, Yana Bevan returned to the bucolically named Longrun Meadow in Taunton, Somerset, while Liz Denyer was further north on parental duties at Princes in Liverpool. Zoë Jukes made it a third consecutive week of Claremont island-hopping, though her trip to Mersea Island turned out not to be, as I assumed initially, anywhere near Liverpool (should have picked up on the clue in the spelling), but on the other side of the country in Essex. Disappointingly, the island is also accessed via a causeway, rather than a ferry.
There were course PB’s for Diana Walmsley at Chopwell Wood and Lucy Ward at Jubilee in Spennymoor. Both hilly, yet very different settings. Lucy also enjoyably finished as 1st lady! Sarah Taylor picked up a course PB at the somewhat flatter Whitley Bay, her second in two weeks.
Harry Mawdsley was 1st once more at Leazes, his 10th time achieving the feat in the shadow of St James’ Park, and his 25th podium-topping finish in just 74 parkruns. Some record!
