There were a few big races for our members this weekend, but that didn’t stop some getting in a parkrun anyway. Tackling the Brighton Marathon the following day, Alex Oliver-Evans had a saunter round the local course. Also down south, Chris Swaddling ran out at his home parkrun of Thetford in Norfolk. Up north and across the border, David Devennie was back at Largs Prom on the west coast.
Cate and I were also in Scotland for a family visit, and found ourselves at Carlingwark Loch in the small town of Castle Douglas, after our first choice of Crichton was cancelled over a week in advance (the run director indeed making reference to ‘Crichton refugees’ during the briefing!) Delightful sunshine took the edge off the chill breeze, and we enjoyed a three-lapper that followed tarmac paths skirting the edge of the loch, plus a few grassy sections, a couple of which had to be trodden carefully due to overnight rain.
Back in the North-East, Diana Walmsley and Ailsa Ralph made their bows at Chopwell Wood and Windy Nook respectively, both finishing as 3rd lady. There was a course PB for Alex Taylor at Rising Sun, while Maria Oranges achieved another parkrun PB at Town Moor, taking 3 seconds off last week’s effort at Leazes.
Circling back to the marathon theme, Mark Anderson was on his last long run, 2 weeks before London, and decided that squeezing in a sub-20 minute parkrun at Blyth in the middle of it was the way to go!
